Photography: Crowns
Crowns are a London folk quartet consisting of Bill Jefferson (guitar, vocals), Jack Speckleton (mandolin/guitar), Peter Brandstetter (bass, piano) and Nathan Haynes (drums, percussion, vocals).
While based in London, Crowns have ventured to Jack’s homeland Jersey, which is where I first met them. First, they were booked to provide live music for the Jersey Arts Centre Youtheatre’s production of One Million Tiny Plays About Britain, which they accompanied with a set in the Blue Note Bar. Following the band around for the week, I was able to document their short residency on the island. Carrying on from this first piece of work, I caught up with them in London where they played sets at both FIlthy MacNasty’s and Belushi’s in the same night. Since their first trip to Jersey, Crowns returned in October for An Evening With Crowns at St. James, where they also filmed a video for single Jessica, directed by Gary Wicks. Having just self-released their first EP, Crowns hope to up the ante in 2010…
